Description

The Public Education Foundation's Mrin and Prakash Nayagam Victorian Secondary Scholarship provides financial assistance to refugee and Indigenous students to assist in their secondary school education. The scholarship is designed to assist students in financial need who may otherwise not have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Two scholarships are available for eligible refugee and Indigenous students currently enrolled in Year 6 in a Victorian public school. Each scholarship consists of a bursary of $2,000 per year for six years ($12,000) to support the student's studies.

What the Scholarship Covers

  • Laptop, iPad or similar device
  • Subject or study-related software, printer, stationery and textbooks
  • Uniforms and equipment
  • Excursions and camps
  • Curricular and extra-curricular learning opportunities
  • Furniture for study (e.g., desk, chair, lamp)
  • Home WiFi for study
  • Face-to-face or online tutoring
Note: If a student leaves public high school before completion of the scholarship period, the scholarship will lapse. If a student’s attendance falls below an acceptable level at any time, the scholarship may be withdrawn. Any unspent funds at the end of the scholarship period must be returned to the Public Education Foundation scholarship fund.

Basic Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled in Year 6 (2025) at a Victorian public school
  • Intending to enrol in a Victorian public secondary school in 2026
  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or hold refugee status
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident

Selection Criteria

  • Experiencing equity, social or physical hardship(s) that may affect their ability to complete school
  • Displays potential to do well at school
  • Has a positive attitude and high attendance
  • Intends to complete VCE and continue to tertiary education
  • Participates in school life
  • Contributes to the community and/or in extracurricular activities
